This is a privately owned beach and is the only location on Hayling Island where
kitesurfing is permitted. The owners allow kitesurfing only under the
control of the HKA of which all riders must be a member. It is only via
the HKA that we, the riders, can exert any regulation of kitesurfing and ensure
it is conductly safely thereby preventing any threat of a ban or prohibitive
fees. The owners also charge the HKA for the use of their land for
kitesurfing. Therefore we need to raise funds via membership to cover this
cost.

The revenue generated from membership fees is used to pay the annual
licence fee (charged by the beach owner for the use of kitesurfing on their property).
We also need to cover running costs (website hosting fee), purchases of safety equipment
(flags, jackets etc) and a small amount is allocated for club social events. The bulk
of the fee is retained in the club bank account in order to spend on future projects
such as the clubhouse plans.

The HKA is an affiliated BKSA club therefore we only accept BKSA insurance.

Affiliation to the BKSA means the HKA and its committee members are
covered under the BKSA insurance policy. We also recieve a rebate
from the BKSA for each member who joins the HKA via the BKSA.
This provides useful additional revenue. Currently the BKSA is the
most mature organistion, representing UK kitesurfing, and most likely to achieve
national recognition. The HKA believes supporting the BKSA is in the best
interest of national recognition and development of kitesurfing in the UK.

This simplifies our administration (all committee members are volunteers) and we
also receive a rebate for each member who joins the HKA via the BKSA.
With a club as large as the HKA these are important factors.

We no longer issue a separate HKA membership card. This is to simplify the HKA administration.
If you joined the HKA at the same time as the BKSA (via the BKSA online shop)
you will receive a BKSA card with 'Hayling Kitesurfing Association' printed along the bottom.

The issuing of BKSA membership cards is the responsibility
of the BKSA. If you joined the HKA via the BKSA online
shop and are still waiting for your card you should contact the BKSA.

Yes. The beach patrol conduct frequent checks of riders on the beach and members should be asking those they don't recognise for proof of membership before they launch them.

You can prove you are a current HKA member in 2 ways:
1. By producing your BKSA card if it has 'Hayling Kitesurfing Association' printed on it.
2. By producing the HKA Certificate of Membership Status.
Click here to request yours. This will be emailed to you,
print it out, put it in a waterproof bag and keep it in your kitebag.
Please keep your proof of membership in your kitebag (not in your car).
NOTE: The harness tag issued by the BKSA is NOT proof of HKA membership.

The beach patrol are members of the HKA committee who volunteer to check memberships. We ask that all members assist them and also that if you don't recognise someone on the beach, you ask them for proof of membership. Remember, you have paid to use the beach, have they or are you subsidising them?
